PRESIDENT’S LETTER

ASWA IS NOW OFFICIALLY AFWA!

Same great people – New great name!  We have officially changed our name and launched our new website as well as contact information.
Our new website is up and running!  Please visit https://sites.google.com/site/desmoinesafwa/ .  Local information as well as national links can easily be found in the new format.  We encourage any feedback, suggestions, comments that you may have as you navigate through the new site.  We are continuously making updates and edits.  Keep checking back!

LOOKING AHEAD TO 2013-2014
We’re looking forward to an exciting 2013-2014.   As we look to complete our initiatives, we need your help!  Read below to learn about opportunities to serve with AFWA in the upcoming year, commitments are from August - July.  Time commitments are conservatively estimated. 

Board Member-at-Large (2-3 hours monthly) – helps to lead the direction of AFWA ; participates in monthly board meetings as well as special initiatives, projects and/or committees.  Total time commitment annually

Membership (2 hours monthly) – facilitating retention and recruitment of members; projects may include email notices, planning social networking activities, maintaining social media outlets (i.e. happy hour, fun lunch), Monthly meetings (over lunch) and special projects

Scholarship (12-15 hours annually)– distributes, collects and reviews scholarship applications for our undergraduate and post-graduate scholarship awards.  Time commitment is concentrated 3 months commitment (bulk of time spent reviewing
applications, 2-3 one-hour long meetings)

Programming (5-10 hours annually) - involved in the planning of member meetings throughout the year; responsible for meeting location and speaker selection with the support of a team

Nominating (5 hours annually) – assists in identifying potential officers, board members and committee chairs, active commitment late April – May.
